“How may I help you?” I asked, giving her a polite smile.

“Miss Kavana, my name is Sheila, I’m a personal shopper. Stacy explained your situation to me and sent me to help.”

“What did she say, exactly?” A personal shopper? Why the hell would I need a personal shopper?

“That your wardrobe is overly conservative, drab, boring and so on. She also said that you’d have a considerable budget to work with but hated shopping. So she sent me.” The woman still had not taken a seat. She stood, looking rather indignant.

“I see. So what sort of budget would replace, say, my entire wardrobe including pajamas, shoes underwear and the like?” I was trying hard not to be offended by all this, but Stacy knew me better than anyone and her heart was in the right place.

“To scrap everything and start from scratch, ten should do it. Five would work, but it would be thin. Ten would get you set up for every occasion, every season, including accessories.”

“And how much do you charge for your service?” I was still trying to recuperate from the ten thousand dollar price tag she’d just thrown out like it was nothing. True, I had over a hundred in savings, but spending money always scared me.

“Stacy took care of my fee already.”

I stared at her. The silence was beginning to feel awkward, but I had no idea how to proceed.

She reached in her bag and pulled out a card. “Transfer the money into this account and I will go get started.” She slid the card across the desk to me and finally took a seat.

“And if there is money left over?”

“The balance will be refunded to you, of course. May I have a cup of coffee?”

I nodded and paged my assistant, who gave a big eye roll when Shelia instructed her on how to prepare her coffee.

I logged onto my bank account and filled out the transfer form. My mouse was hovering over the submit button when my rude assistant delivered Sheila’s coffee.

“Thank you,” she said politely, “and ma’am?”

I looked up from my desk to see my assistant turn around, hand on her hip, annoyed look donning her ugly face.

“Eye rolling and attitude is best reserved for teenage girls who are inept at any mature form of communication. If you were my assistant, I would have fired you already.”

I clicked the button with a smile on my face.

“Do you need my measurements or something?” I asked with too much enthusiasm in my voice.

“Stand.” Sheila stood up and walked around my desk, looking me up and down. “I got it.” She sat her coffee cup on my desk without having taken one sip and grabbed her bag.

  “Don’t you want your coffee?”

“No, I don’t drink the stuff. That bitch just needed put in her place. Besides, I’m sure she spit in it.” She winked at me. “Now be at your apartment by six o’clock sharp. Waiting makes me bitchy.”

  And she was gone.

I looked down at my coffee cup and gulped. There could be spit in my cup. My assistant was constantly making mistakes, excuses for mistakes and she was rude as hell. Truth was I hated her and I had ample cause to fire her.

I’d never fired anyone before. But before Saturday, I had never been to a toy party, saw a naked woman being masturbated, watched porn or used a dildo or vibrator. I paged her.

“Yeah?” she said as she poked her head in the door.

“You may pack your desk and go. Thank you for your service.”

  Her jaw dropped open. “What?”

“You’re fired. I’m tired of your attitude, your eye-rolling, mistakes and nearly everything about you. You’re overpaid and pretty much worthless. Good luck.” I waved her off and looked back at my screen, shooting an email off to Human Resources informing them of my decision and the basis for it.

When I looked up again, I saw her stomping off with a box of her personal items. It really made me happy.

I was home before six, waiting anxiously for my personal shopper. I hoped that the dent in my savings was worth it.

The suspense had almost driven me crazy when Sheila knocked on my door. She stood with two men on each side of her and more bags and boxes than I had ever seen.

“Put them over there,” she ordered them. They put the items down and she stood at the door as they left and returned loaded down a second time. She reached in her bag handing them both a wad of cash and thanked them as she closed the door behind them.

“Let’s get started , shall we?” Her smile was glorious. This woman obviously loved her job.

I just hoped everything she bought was something I would like and that all the items would fit me.

“First, here I have a box of garbage bags. Let’s load up your old clothes. Take off what you’re wearing too.” She shook her finger up and down at me. “I don’t ever want to see that outfit again.”

I wanted to hate her, but I was too excited. “Right here?”

“Yes ma’am. This is what I do. Trust me. I’ve seen a lot of naked people. There’s no need to be shy.

I took a deep breath and kicked off my shoes. I slid my skirt to the floor and shredded the knit top I was wearing. I stood in my old bra and underwear, feeling very self-conscious.

She was digging in a large pink plastic bag, not looking at me. “Underwear too.”

I gulped and did as she asked. I stood naked and nervous.

“Oh dear,” she said when she looked back in my direction. She spun around and grabbed her purse off the chair and handed me a card. It was for a salon…to get waxed.

I heard an audible whimper escape my lips.

“Yes, it’s going to hurt like hell, but it’s better than razor burn. Now put these on.” She handed me a matching set of silk underwear and matching bra.

I couldn’t put them on fast enough. As she commanded, I took the garbage bags and put every stitch of clothing including shoes and accessories in the bags. If it wouldn’t have been so much work, I would have been freezing in my underwear.

The next three hours were spent trying on outfits, including each pair of shoes and accessories that corresponded with each outfit. I was tired and starving by the time we ended. I had on a cute new pair of pajamas perfect for lounging around the house. Sheila helped me organize my clothes as I put them all away.

Before I could offer to get some takeout, there was a knock at the door. Sheila swiftly made her way to the door, took the bags, paid the delivery boy and shut the door in his face.

I rushed over to help with the bags, but was brushed off. Normally, this would have pissed me off, but tonight, I was too spent to care.

“Sit, eat and relax,” she demanded.

“You sure are bossy,” I complained as I sat down at my dining room table.

She poured two glasses of wine, sliding one over to me. “I don’t have time to tiptoe around things, Ms. Kavana. Besides, if you’re as hungry as I am, you just want to shove all this food in your mouth at once.”

“I am starving. Thank you for everything. I can’t believe you got all my sizes right, even down to ring size.” I opened the lid to the foil box in front of me to find a large steak cooked to perfection. Everything tasted wonderful, from the wine to the tiny tart that was sent as a dessert.

“I think I’m going to pass out!” Sheila said, leaning back in her chair. She pulled a tiny stick out of her hair, releasing her bun. Her chocolate brown hair flowed beautifully over her shoulders. She looked less abrasive, more relaxed and friendly.

“Me too. This all took me by surprise. At first I was a little put off, but everything Stacy told you about me was true. My wardrobe needed serious help and I’m a terrible shopper.”

Sheila smiled. “If it weren’t for women like you, women like me would be unemployed. But I get to shop, which I love, spend money, which isn’t mine and make women like you happy and free up time so you can do things you enjoy. I generally make $500 per trip, depending on what’s involved, so it all works out well for me. But I only serve a clientele who
can afford me. I’ve had to become very good at defining a woman’s size and taste within a few moments.

“How do you know my taste when I haven’t even figured it out yet?”

“Well talking with Stacy about you helped. You want to be less mousy and you’re willing to be daring. I looked at your natural color, skin tone, eye color and such. I know what colors work well for you. It just comes from experience. I bought things for you today that I would never wear, because it wouldn’t look good on me.”

Pondering what she said, I sipped at my wine. All I wanted to do was climb into bed and pass out.

Sheila sprung from her chair, grabbed her purse and retrieved a card, shoving it at me. “One last thing before I go. Can you leave your office around 2 p.m. tomorrow?”

It wouldn’t be easy without an assistant, but I never took time off. “It shouldn’t be a problem. Why?”

“That’s a card for one of my closest friends. She’s a beautician and cosmetologist. She’s going to get your hair and makeup in order. I took the liberty of setting an appointment for you, but the fee is going to be all yours.”

“Thank you. Have a good evening.” Did I really need a head to toe makeover? Stacy thought so. Sheila thought so. I had no idea I was such a wreck.

Sheila nodded and showed herself out.

I was alone, and too tired to do anything else, so I climbed into bed. Thoughts of sex, toys, porn and lingerie ran through my mind, but fatigue took over and I was fast asleep.

  PLEASANT SURPRISE

The next morning I bounced out of bed as I never had before. I woke before the alarm and hurried to the coffee pot. Instead of sleepily waiting to be able to pour a cup, I showered while it brewed.

Showered with coffee in hand, I stared at my closet in amazement. It was all mine. I grabbed a sexy suit Sheila had picked out for me. A form fitting black skirt that had a white frilly top and black corset looking thing with shoulder straps was what I couldn’t wait to wear. I pulled out a matching panty and bra set, hose and high heeled shoes. As soon as I was dressed, I spent longer in the bathroom than usual, adding volume to my hair and putting on a little more makeup than I had in the past. Anything more than mascara was more than I usually wore.

I almost didn’t recognize myself in the mirror. Satisfied with my look, and eager to share it with the world, I gathered my things. I sent a quick text to Stacy thanking her for everything and inviting her for a post work drink.

Before I knew it, I was the first one at the office. Without an assistant, my workload was going to increase. I dove right in, finishing up a marketing campaign I had been working on.

“Excuse me, Miss Kavana?” A young woman was standing at my door looking nervous.

  “Can I help you?”

“I’m Regan, the lady at the front desk said I was your first interview for today.”

  Damn! Interviews.

After four hours of interviewing hopeless candidates, I made my way to the diner on the corner for lunch. I sat at the counter with a magazine and ordered a sandwich and coke. Looking around I did catch a few men looking my way. It was difficult not to grin.

“Oh my god, I love that suit!” A woman plopped down next to me, dropping her thin briefcase on the floor by my feet. “I’m sorry, did I startle you?”

  I chuckled, “Just a little.”

“Sorry, I’m frazzled. It’s been a long day of interviews for me. Do you have any idea how frustrating it is to be told you’re overqualified for everything? I’m smart as hell and broke as fuck. That pretty much makes me not overqualified to work.” She flagged the waitress down and placed her order.

“What sort of work are you looking for?” I asked nonchalantly.

“I really don’t care at this point. I’ve been a legal assistant and a sales assistant. I can pretty much help anyone do anything. All I want is a chance.” She sighed, “My mouth tends to get me into trouble though. I was fired over a year ago from my last job.”

“Oh?” I had been interviewing people all day, but this was fun. I liked this woman. She was quirky and talkative, but had an intelligent way about her.

“The guy was a douchebag. Kept insisting on late nights at the office and drinks. When he got the nerve up to put his hands on me and I cussed him good and proper.” She balled up her fist and shook it in the air, “Fucking men!”

“I see. Did you bother to file a sexual harassment claim against him?” I asked after thanking the waitress for my food.

“Please!” She huffed. “I was a legal assistant for five years. I’ve seen what happens to the women who do file those claims. No thank you. It was better for me to tell him what a fuckwad he was and move on. But honestly, I thought I’d be employed by now.”

I wiped my mouth with a napkin. “Is there anything in your history that keeps you from employment, like a criminal record or anything?”

“No, I’ve worked too much to get into any trouble. I have a few parking tickets, but I’ve always paid them. You ask a lot of questions, you know.” She took a big bite out of her sandwich.

I held out my hand, “I’m Candy Kavana.”

She shook my hand, “Olivia Bryant. Nice to meet you.”

I sipped at my coke gazing at her. “Do you have a resume handy? Maybe I can help.”

“Normally I wouldn’t give my resume to a stranger, but why the hell not.” She reached in her case and handed me her resume.

  It was impeccable.

“How would you like to work for a woman? I fired my assistant yesterday and quite honestly I’ve been interviewing candidates all day. You’re the first person I’ve liked all day. We’ll start on a 90 day probation and if it goes well from there, you’ll be on full-time.”

She laughed at me like I had just said the most absurd thing she’d ever heard.

  “Are you shitting me?”

“You can’t use that language in the office.” Fighting a smile, I handed her my card. “When we’re done eating, go to my office and tell them you need to go to Human Resources. They’ll get your paperwork done. I’ll show you around quickly and get you settled. Fair enough?”

She shrugged. “It has to pay more than unemployment.”

She was going to be pleasantly surprised. Our assistants were paid quite well.

I finished lunch and went to the office. It didn’t take long for her to knock on my door, announcing her paperwork was in order. I gave her a quick tour.

“Ma’am, thank you so much. I really couldn’t take one more rejection today.” She looked as if she would tear up.

“Look, my last assistant was surly, rude, and inept and I am pretty sure she spit in my coffee. I kept her around for three years through all of that. Just don’t fuck up and please, don’t spit in my coffee.” I chuckled. “Now, I hate to leave you, but I’m taking an afternoon off for the first time in years. Think you can handle the phone?”

She nodded and retreated to her new desk.

I did a good deed and had an assistant. It was time. I took a cab and went to the salon. Three hours and a couple of hundred dollars later, I looked fantastic. My hair was now beautifully streaked with blonde highlights and I had the right makeup palette for my face. My fingernails and toenails had never been so pretty.

I stood outside my favorite martini bar puffing a smoke as I waited for Stacy. I wasn’t sure whether the looks I was getting was because of my new look or because you couldn’t smoke anywhere in this goddamned city without people looking at you as if you had a loaded weapon pointed at them.

A whistle caused me to snap my head. Stacy was the whistler.

“Damn girl! You clean up nice!” She laughed and hooked her arm in mine.

We walked into the bar to find our favorite bartender already mixing my favorite martini.

“Ms. Kavana, you look marvelous,” he said sliding the drinks to us.

“Thank you, Enrique.” My heart jumped a little. He was the hottest bartender in the entire city, which is one of the reasons I favored
this bar. He mixed a mean martini which didn’t hurt either.

“Stacy, I can’t thank you enough for everything. I already feel like a new woman.” We tapped our glasses together and sipped.

“I have one more gift for you.” Her Cheshire grin scared me a little.

“No, no, no. Absolutely not! You’ve done too much already.”

She slid a card to me and leaned toward me. “She’s a sex therapist. She has a phenomenal reputation. She’ll really help you discover your limits and desires.”

The wind had gotten knocked out of me. How many things could one person go through in such a short period of time? I looked different, I had new experiences. Hell I had fired and rehired an assistant within the last 24 hours. My brain was going to short circuit.

“Just set up an appointment and go talk to her. Please, just trust me. You look like you’re going to faint.” Stacy had her hand on my shoulder, bracing me upright.

A giggle escaped my lips. “It’s a lot to take in so soon. That’s all. I appreciate it.” I looked at the card again and giggled. “Babs already took care of this for me though. Apparently my first session is free. Knowing she’s a friend to Babs scares the hell out of me though.”

She slapped me on the back. “Enough of all this. Let’s just do girl-talk have our two martinis and head on home.”

Thankfully, there was nothing else uncomfortable about our evening and it ended on a friendly, relaxed note.

  THE CONTRACT

Back at home, I was on the couch in my new pajamas, though I chose a sexy pair this time. I turned on my DVD and selected a scene I hadn’t seen yet then retrieved my new toys. The clothes, the new hair and makeup all made me feel sexy. After the orgasm I had during my last experience, I was more than ready to have another.

The scene on the screen shocked me. A woman was bound and gagged wearing a leather outfit that covered everything except what one would want to have covered. Her breasts and private parts were completely revealed.

The man had a leather whip in his hand with several fingers on the end and he was lightly spanking her. The arousal of the woman was evident, as her genitals were dripping wet and her nipples stood erect. Her ass was starting to turn rosy, but she wasn’t screaming in pain. She was enjoying it.
